David Gateere
Sr. Project Manager
What do you do at Urban Communities?
I am responsible for tracking, reporting and providing accurate records for our construction projects. I oversee the schedule and costs on existing projects, and I develop scopes of work to determine labor, vendor and material needs on new projects. I also handle inspections, quality control and safety standards. I work closely with the construction manager to coordinate and schedule construction activities.
What is your experience?
I have been in the construction industry for almost 20 years. I started out in the homebuilding industry working on semi-custom homes before moving to high-volume production building. Later on, I transitioned to multifamily housing where I mostly managed renovations as well as preventive maintenance efforts
How did you get into the industry?
I have always been interested in construction and engineering, so it was a natural fit for me. My father is a highway engineer, so I spent a lot of time as a child on construction projects. In high school I assisted in the construction of several rental homes that my parents built. I have always loved the idea that, in construction, you can take an empty lot to a finished product to be used by other people in their daily lives. Homes are especially important because these are where we raise our families.
What are your hobbies and interests?
I love sports especially soccer, football, basketball and rugby. I am either watching sports or participating in them, especially with my kids. Other interests include traveling, reading and watching engineering/construction shows.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
“Don’t stress over things you cannot control.” - My grandmother
